Not affected In light of the report that the US NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) that they are investigating some complaints involving the power steering on the Toyota Corolla models in the United States, the Malaysian Toyota distributor, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd said that they have not received any complaints on power steering in the Toyota Corolla sold in the country.
A statement released by UMW states “This is due to the different body and size, thus different components used as compared with models in the U.S. We would like to reaffirm and emphasise to our customers in Malaysia that all Toyota Corolla models sold by us are not affected by this issue," UMW also added that the recall of the Toyota Tacoma pick ups in the United States due to the drive shaft problem would not affect the Malaysian market because it is a totally different model as compared to the Hilux model sold by them. "The drive shaft used in our pick-up model is different from the one used in Toyota Tacoma,"
