Korean car maker Kia will be rolling out the new version of the Sorento come 2010. The Sorento was first introduced in 2002 which put the car maker into the automobile map. The 4x4 vehicle more or less introduced the brandname into the global market which is what Kia is pretty much known for today, reliability and style. But with the 4x4 making waves all around, Kia can pretty much shake off the ‘small cars’ label from its brand.
Kia has been working relentlessly to demonstrate that they can be competitively challenge the other more established car makers in around the world by providing creatively styled designs, robust performance and quite importantly economic value. The Sorento is one such success story which eventually spin off to the Sportage, which is smaller 4x4 version.
According to Peter Schreyer, the CDO (Chief Design Officer) of the company, the launch of the new Sorento is set to take everyone by surprise where a futuristic design will take centrestage. At the same time, neutralists will also like its performance and features. This is because the old body-on-frame structure in the previous models have all been taken out and a monocoque bodyshell incorporated. It now sits 7 passengers comfortably.
Lee Hyoung-Keun, the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the International Business Division is upbeat about the prospects of the 2010 Sorento and how it will fare in the market saying that “With the new Sorento, we have created an all-new, seven-seater CUV that will soon be recognized as an ‘exciting all-rounder’ with a much broader customer appeal. Despite the current economic uncertainties, we are confident that 2010 Kia Sorento will significantly increase Kia’s share of the CUV market, achieving annual global sales of 140,000 units from 2010.”
